A fair hearing for the reluctant
About this guide.
A practical starting point for people who are curious about AI, doubtful about it, or both.
Who makes it
So You Hate AI is an independent guide operated by Maurice Hawkesworth, from The Giant Tiny App Factory. The idea is simple: choose one ordinary task, give an AI service a fair try, and decide whether it helps you.
The name is an invitation to the reluctant. You do not have to agree with the enthusiasm to find a useful starting point here.
Why these ten
This is a curated consumer shortlist covering conversation, search, images and music. It is not a worldwide usage ranking, an exhaustive directory, or a claim that every service has been tested firsthand.
We compare practical uses, available free options, paid plans and the conditions a beginner should notice. The suggestions are editorial judgments; the right choice depends on your task, country, budget and privacy needs.
Sources and changing prices
The comparison links to official provider pages and shows when prices were checked. Prices are US list prices in US dollars unless stated otherwise. Local prices, taxes, eligibility, usage limits and plan features can differ or change.
Check the provider’s current terms and checkout before paying. A free option may still have limits, require an account or include advertising. For the detail behind an entry, open its “Sources & conditions” on the main guide.
How the site is funded
There are currently no affiliate links or referral commissions. Provider links take you directly to their sites. Google AdSense advertising is being set up and remains subject to site review and consent checks; any ads shown will be labeled separately from the editorial guide.
Read our Privacy & cookies page for the current setup and your choices.
Help keep it useful
If a price, link or explanation is wrong, send a correction with the relevant page and an official source where possible. For an account, payment or service problem, contact that AI provider directly.
